EXCLUSIVE: Ranking the Top 15 Most Expensive Universities in Nigeria

In a recent report by Punch, the spotlight shines on the priciest educational establishments in Nigeria, highlighting the country’s elite institutions that command substantial tuition for their services.

Here’s a rundown of private universities where the cost of education is at a premium, listed in ascending order:

1. Covenant University.

Tucked in Otta, Ogun State and aligned with Living Faith Church Worldwide, Covenant University bears the reputation of imposing high fees on its programmes, ranging between N1.1m to N3m, meals inclusive but accommodation apart.

2. Joseph Ayo Babalola University

Rooted in Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun State and founded by the Christ Apostolic Church Worldwide, this institution is noted for its steeply-priced BSc Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Law programmes, costing between N1.3m to N1.5m each academic season.

3. Ajayi Crowther University

Established in 2005 in Oyo State, this private faith-driven university lists its Law programme at N1.7m and Nursing at N1.4m.

4. Caleb University.

Situated in Imota, Lagos, Caleb University stands out with high fees especially in Law, demanding N1.4m from its law undergraduates, not factoring in additional costs like matriculation and ICT certification charges.

5. Redeemer’s University

Nestled in Ede, Osun State, this institution prides itself on a flexible tuition schedule offering a three-installment payment plan. Law undergrads face a fee of N1.447m, while Nursing students pay N1.1m.

6. Babcock University

Affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Babcock reserves its highest price N1,539,990 for the LL.B Law course sans the meal costs.

7. Benson Idahosa University

In Benin City, Edo State lies Benson Idahosa University where degrees like Medicine, Surgery, Nursing, and Law come with a price tag of N1.2m to N3.5m per academic stint.

8. American University of Nigeria

Established in Adamawa State by former VP Atiku Abubakar, the American University of Nigeria lists its leading engineering undergrad degree at N3.511m, exclusive of lodging and sustenance.

9. Bowen University

Bowen, a private Baptist Christian institution in Iwo, Osun State, places its Medicine and Surgery fees at around N3.8m, adding on charges for various services.

10. Igbinedion University

Recognized as Nigeria’s pioneer private institution in Okada, Edo State, Igbinedion boasts high-quality education with Medicine students in their final year spending up to N4m aside from other levies.

11. Pan-Atlantic University

With a Lagos base, Pan-Atlantic offers its Mechatronics Engineering program from N3.9m to N4.4m, covering study materials and academic facilities as well.

12. Afe Babalola University

Es0tablished by Chief Afe Babalola, the university asks for N4,567,500 from first-year med students and N5,586,000 from those in their final year, exclusive of housing and miscellaneous fees.

13. Lead City University

Ibadan’s Lead City cites its MBBS Medicine and Surgery at a steep N5.5m per term, with other health-related courses at N2.5m each.

14. Nile University

In Nigeria’s capital, Nile University demands N5.95m just for tuition in its Medicine and Surgery course.

15. Wigwe University

Isiokpo, Rivers State’s Wigwe University tops this list with a staggering N12m tuition fee, accommodation covered.
