Gunmen attacked an IDP camp in Wukari Local Council in Taraba state on Friday, affecting returnees identified as Tiv.
While narrating the story, some of the victims of the attack said that they were repairing their destroyed houses and laying bricks when the attackers attacked their houses.
The attackers, according to one of the victims who gave his name as Tarnege John, not only armed themselves but also shot sporadically the fleeing residents.
He said, “Some of our brothers ran into the bushes for safety and those who decided to stay behind were not spared.

“Some of us who decided to stay so that we would find out what brought about the unfortunate and ugly situation were heavily descended on with machetes and three of us were left in our own pool of blood.”
“When they discovered that we were unconscious, they carted away our Peugeot and three motorcycles and went ahead to burn all our belongings without any interference.”
The victims have expressed regret over the apathetic attitude of the local and state governments towards the displaced Tiv people in the state and have called on the Federal Government to come to their aid as soon as possible.
They also called on the authorities at all levels to take action to prevent any kind of problem from arising again in the council in all states.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Usman Abdullahi, could not get a clear explanation of the incident.
“We promise to get in touch with the Divisional Police Officer of the council to find out about the incident,” he added.
