The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) made a breakthrough, recovering 73 stolen vehicles across Nigeria in 2024. The success is linked to the agency’s innovative National Vehicle Identification Scheme portal, designed to track and verify vehicle registrations.
FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide revealed that the vehicles were intercepted during registration attempts. “This milestone demonstrates the efficiency of our intelligence-driven operations in collaboration with security agencies,” he said.

The recovered vehicles include 21 Toyota Corollas, 17 Toyota Camrys, six Toyota Siennas, and six Lexus 350s. Others include a Toyota Hilux, one Pontiac Vibe, and two Qlink motorcycles. Each interception stopped stolen vehicles from being legally integrated into the system, ensuring justice for their rightful owners.
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed praised the team’s dedication and highlighted the importance of accurate registration details. “Proper documentation is key to intelligence gathering and vehicle recovery. It’s a critical tool in preventing crime,” he stated.
He also urged Nigerians to support the FRSC’s efforts to combat vehicle theft and improve road safety. With this achievement, the FRSC continues to demonstrate its commitment to making Nigerian roads safer and reducing crime.
This recovery sends a strong message to criminals, showing that innovation and teamwork can outsmart even the most complex theft schemes.
