IHF Trophy Africa: Rwanda U20 taste first defeat

The Rwandan U20s looked too good as they suffered a shocking 34-52 defeat in their first match of the IHF Trophy Africa Tournament in Brazzaville. We lost to West Africa at Nicole High School OBA on Wednesday.

Guinea won the first half 23–15 and scored 29 goals to Rwanda’s 19 in the second half to secure a comfortable win.

Competing in the junior division, Rwanda won their first two matches of the tournament as Antoine NtaBanganimana’s men beat Madagascar 50-29 in the second on Monday in the first leg and beat each other in Congo’s host Brazzaville on Tuesday. 34 – 32.

After Wednesday’s loss, Rwanda will have to wait a little longer to qualify for the IHF Men’s Cup Intercontinental in Costa Rica in March 2023. Thursday before the tournament in Nigeria and Friday 20 January in Zimbabwe.

Rwanda was one of six juniors (under 20) who took part in the five-day tournament in Brazzaville. Other representative countries include Congo hosts Brazzaville, Guinea, Madagascar, Nigeria and Zimbabwe.
