NCC Sets Deadline For SIM Linkage

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced September 14, 2024, as the final deadline for Nigerians to link their Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) to National Identity Numbers (NINs).

The commission has directed all Mobile Network Operators to complete the mandatory verification and linkage of SIMs to NINs by this date.

As of now, over 153 million SIMs have been successfully linked to a NIN, representing a 96% compliance rate. The NCC urges those who have not yet completed the linkage to do so promptly to avoid disconnection.

The commission also warns that the sale and purchase of pre-registered SIMs are criminal offenses punishable by imprisonment and fines.

This policy aims to enhance the trust and security of Nigeria’s digital economy, reduce fraud and cybercrime, and promote financial inclusion and economic growth.
