US Postpones Military Exercises With Georgia, Concerns Over Georgia Govt’s Actions

The United States has indefinitely postponed its military exercises with Georgia, citing concerns over the Georgian government’s recent actions. The decision comes after the Georgian government accused the US of pressuring Georgia to open a second front against Russia and of participating in two coup attempts against the ruling party.

The move is seen as a sign of the deteriorating relations between the two countries, with the US implementing sanctions against Georgian government officials. The Georgian Defence Minister has expressed confusion over the decision, stating that “cooperation with the US will continue in other formats, but the postponement of the exercise is not understandable.”

The postponement of the military exercises is seen as a consequence of the Georgian government’s recent actions, including its ban on LGBTQ+ activities and its close ties with Russia. The US has been critical of Georgia’s stance on LGBTQ+ rights, with President Joe Biden promising to take action against countries that do not legalize and promote the lifestyle.

The development has sparked reactions from Nigerians, who are seeking explanations over the #SamoaAgreement and its implications on Nigeria’s sociocultural framework. However, many have expressed defiance, saying “let them bring it on. We will not glorify their LGBTQ agenda with burial. We will burn it and disperse the ashes to the uttermost parts of the earth.” The sentiment is echoed by the phrase “Africa belongs to Africans! Period!”
