Lawan: Democracy At Work As S’Court Give Verdict

Senate President Ahmad Lawan, yesterday, described the Supreme Court judgement declaring him the authentic aspirant of the All Progressives Congress( APC) for Yobe North senatorial district as democracy in action.

According to Lawan, the judgement affirming him as the APC senatorial aspirant for Yobe North is attestation of democracy at work in Nigeria.

Lawan, who made the statement while replying to the Supreme Court judgement, affirming him as the ruling party’s aspirant for Yobe North, also said that the verdict was a triumph for the APC in Yobe and the APC in the country in general.

Consigning the apex court for the judgement, he expressed delight that the judgement would strengthen democracy, saying that all Nigerians and institutions have a responsibility to work towards strengthening the democracy.

Lawan also expressed optimism that the APC would record landslide triumph in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.

His words: Let me start by thanking God for his blessing and of course, what had occurred today in the Supreme Court judgement on Yobe North Particularly is a triumph for APC in Yobe and generally APC across the country. What occurred was democracy at work and the courts gave their various judgements and of course the Supreme Court gave the final judgement.

I want at this point to repose the Supreme Court and of course the judiciary generally for making the kind of judgement to strengthen our democracy because it isn’t only for politicians to work and strengthen democracy it’s all of us and all the institutions have their positions to play.

Let me take this chance to thank the All Progressives Congress, our party, for taking this matter to the Supreme Court. Actually, as an individual, I did n’t go to the Supreme Court to seek for a redress but my party did and my people of Yobe North and Yobe State generally and numerous political associates and well- request across the country and beyond insisted that there had to be an appeal at the Supreme Court on this matter.

So, today it’s a triumph for all of us involved. I’m the symbol but the triumph is for our party, the APC and for democracy.

This 9th Senate has been a truly productive Senate and our associates have shown interest in what has been going on in this Senate. I thank all my associates in the Senate for the support and the love for the collaboration, and I want to recommit myself to ensuring that the leadership of the Senate continues to lead truly well. We’ll always be appreciative of our associates who gave us the mandate to lead the 9th National Assembly.

We’ll be looking at the 25th of February when the Presidential and the National Assembly elections will take place. By the grace of God, Nigerians will vote APC once again. On the 25th the presidential aspirant of the APC Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, will be voted in as President of Nigeria by the grace of God alongside Distinguish Senator Kasim Shettima, who’s the vice presidential aspirant.

When it comes to the Senatorial and House of Representatives, you know what it’ll be. It’ll be a landslide maturity for the APC and the same thing for the House of Reps.

We’ll continue to give Nigeria leadership to continue with those programs and systems that we’ve been doing truly well and reevaluate and commute those that we think we haven’t done really well. This I believe will make Nigeria better.
